Marie V. Beckwith, 94, (or "Mommer" as Zella called her) of Bald Eagle died Saturday April 2, 2011, at Tyrone Hospital. She was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Buffalo, N.Y. the oldest child of J. Irvin and Zella (Haines) Holt. She was first married to Rodney F. Wheeland on Nov. 11, 1934 in Cumberland, Md., he died June 18, 1954. She then married Sylvester R. Walk on June 25, 1955 in Patton, Pa. He died Sept. 18, 1983. On April 16, 1994 she married Leroy R. Beckwith in Port Matilda who also preceded her in death on June 28, 1998. She is survived by five of her six children, Keith Wheeland, of State College, Bev (Dorsey) Houtz, of Florida, Lorrie (Frank) Kemp, of New Jersey, Rod Wheeland, of Seattle, Wash. and Zella (Jr.) Hook, of Tyrone; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins; and a sister Nadine (Dixon) Waite, of Bellefonte. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellie Baroncini on Feb. 8, 2009; and two brothers William and Robert Holt. Mrs. Beckwith was a member of the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, attended the Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries day care two days a week and went to the Northern Blair Senior Services for lunch three days a week. Zella was her caregiver and she and Jr. took her everyplace they went, calling themselves the Three Musketeers. She loved traveling with them. When she was 92, she started bowling and enjoyed doing that (and even beat Jr. one time) and she collected unicorns. She enjoyed going to the Waffle Shop, Bellefonte on Sundays and was one of the regulars at the Little Restaurant, Philipsburg. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Roger Templeton officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Hall Cemetery, State College. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Blair Senior Services, 1320 12th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16601.
